Taos: Steep and Friendly

Town of Taos

Town of Taos

Since our last minute trip to Taos last year, Dan and I have been itching to get back to New Mexico to visit Taos Ski Valley.  This year we managed to talk some new friends into joining in on our adventure.  Dan and I had a total blast with Jason and Cari (HI Mom and Dad! Ha!).

We pulled into our New Mexico abode on Friday night and laughed our heads off at the crazy inn keeper for the bed and breakfast.  The place had a nice vibe but was so quirky.  Let’s just say it is hard to light a kiva with the lone match you found among the dust bunnies under the bed-it took three of us to get it going!  The art was a little out of context as well but it was fun to stay in an adobe hacienda.

In addition to fine lodging (cough, cough) we also enjoyed some fresh, funky, fun food.  What’s a vacation without a great meal or two?

The scenery and sights were, ehhhhh, not too shabby either!   Like I’ve said before, the Southwest is so Southwest – and I like it (especially with good company!)

Oh, and as if great company, good lodging, tasty food, and fantastic sights weren’t enough, the skiing was rockin’ as well.  Even though I know “steep” and “friendly” aren’t two words you usually put together, that is how I would describe Taos Ski Valley.  I’ll forgive them for allowing snowboarders if it means they will keep allowing us to use two days on our ski pass at this resort.  The people are so nice and Walkyries is my new favorite ski run in the world.  Seriously, we are BFF’s!

My advice is go to Taos if you can.  It is like another world down there but you’ll be glad you went!

***I might have gone a smidge overboard on the pictures in this post.  I just couldn’t stand to leave anything out.  I guess my new Christmas/Valentine’s camera has taken over my brain.

Thanks CheyAnne! You are a lucky duck if you get to live in Taos in the winter but I don’t know if I could hack in the heat!
