SD :: Day 5, last day
Our last day in sunny San Diego was first spent at a great breakfast place called The Mission. Very yummy banana blackberry pancakes! From there, we navigated ourselves through the aisles at NEX-the Navy Exchange Black Friday sale. It was a madhouse but we got a great deal on jeans for Dan and Ben got us a tax free break. After that, we headed downtown to the Midway Aircraft Carrier for a tour. This ginormous craft is something spectacular and if I was interested in the Navy or airplanes this tour might have been a little more appealing. Nevertheless, Ben and Dan had a great time buffing up on their nautical history. Seriously though, did you know that Ben is a Lieutenant in the Navy and has actually been an Officer of the Deck (fill in Captain) for the US Nimitz Aircraft Carrier which is even larger than the Midway? Kinda blows my mind so he has my respect! After the tour, we raced to Ocean Beach to catch the last sun rays of our trip. The sunset did not disappoint and I just love the last picture above that Ben took of Dan and me. After dark, we squeezed in one more stop to Old Town to check out some of the “unique” shops. Man, I am so glad that we stopped talking about visiting Ben and actually did it because the memories from this trip are a true treasure for us.
Ben and Dan and I all left California EARLY this morning. Ben was on his way for a two week deployment to Okinawa. When Dan and I got back to Denver, there was a sweet blanket of snow waiting for us – what a great welcome home gift for me!
