brick wall

Feeling a bit like this broken down brick building.  Today was rough all the way around from start to finish.

One big bright spot?  The chunky snowflakes falling outside right now.

Holding on to that soft peace and hoping that tomorrow is a little more gentle on me.

High: Running into an old friend/coworker who teaches elementary art just before church started last night.  I haven’t seen her for two years.  We chatted on the phone about art stuff today – We have so much to catch up on.

Low: Several low blood sugars – including two in the twenties, boooo.

High: Excessive sleep = nearly over my head cold.

Low: Copper got into the trash and now she has trashy toots.  (TMI?  Whatever, you know your dog does it, too).

High: Seeing the floor in our bedroom for the first time in four weeks.  I have now conquered the laundry monster (for now)

Low: Mailed the check for my traffic ticket.

High: Hearing Two Weeks by Grizzly Bear while doing some school planning/brainstorming in the Barnes & Noble Cafe.

Low: Finding glue for .25 at Walmart during my art room shopping spree as opposed to the 3 for $2 I paid at Office Max.  Bummer.

High: New insurance cards came in the mail yesterday.  I may or may not have had no insurance since May.  (shhh…don’t tell my mom.)

Low: Putting the memory card back in my camera and getting some severely wonky flashing and zoom malfunctions.  After charging the battery and crossing my fingers, it . is . dead . as . a . doornail….DEAD.  Can you believe it?  My first reaction was “NOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOoooooo!” and then I took a breath, tried to stay positive, and then “nooooOOOOOOOooooooOOOoooOOOOooooooo!”  I think it really is a goner so if you have any camera suggestions, I suppose I better start researching…Haven’t I been here before.  (thought I solved that with this.)

But, I don’t want to leave you with that low nooooooote so here is the amazingly interesting and creative “unofficial” video I found via Dooce for Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks as created by Gabe Askew .  Watch it and feel good.

**Ok, now it’s your turn.  What were some of your weekend High/Lows??

tractor pullin'

Boy, I’m whoooped.  Long, busy, good day from meetings into supply orders into the county fair tractor pull and carnival extravaganza with friends.  It’s good to get in touch with your redneck side once in a while.  I also enjoyed a fantastic hand fried corn dog, beer, kettle corn and deep fried Oreo.  My diabetes might be a smidge angry with me.

Next up:  camping in Summit County.

It’s the weekend – let’s do this thing.

candy fire

double goo

What’s that?  I couldn’t get those silly marshmallows off my mind?  Summertime get togethers with old friends are so refreshing.  Especially if they end with a little fire in the chiminea and some toasted marshmallows.  Did you know that four big mallows are only 24 carbs?  That’s not a lot of insulin in the world of diabetes.  Just thought you might like to know.

Oh summer.  I love you.

Summer camp is going in full swing and in a matter of two weeks I’ll be done and on my way into the swing of school.  Real school.  Sigh.

For now, it’s time for bed.   Big, big day full of fabulous summer things like baseball games and redneck races.  Don’t worry, I’ll take pics.

Nighty night.

My parent’s visit was grand*.

Day 1:  We started out the holiday weekend at the Boulder’s Farmer’s Market.  It has always been a fave of mine – such good people watching!

After a giant parking ticket (and a BOOT!)  More shopping and people watching on Pearl St.

A leisurely drive up to Boulder Falls and then the risk of falling rocks.

Back home, we grilled up some great Tri-Tip and then caught the sights of the local fireworks.  You didn’t think I would miss a few shots of fireworks, did you?

Just two favorite fireworks for now.

REALLY in love with this next one…

Day 2:

Cherry Creek Arts festival.  Now, I’ve been to my share of art festivals and I will have to say this one was quite refreshing.  Lots of unique but not outrageous artwork.  We wore ourselves out between the market and this festival.

Pismo Gallery has a Dale Chihuly and I don’t think I’ve gotten to see one in person before.  Sweet!

We wrapped the day up with a little church and some Italian in downtown Lafayette – it is so charming.

Day 3:

****Let’s just start this day by saying that I think I am a little shy in taking people pics.  I’ll take them if they don’t know I’m watching but, for the most part, I like the subjects that don’t watch me back while taking their pic.  I need to work on this.

We figured we had shopped till we nearly dropped (although I can always shop moooore!) so we ventured out into the wild.  Rocky Mountain National park was full of nature and people and people looking at nature.  We drove up and over Trailridge and into Grand Lake.  Our impression of Grand Lake was a little more like Good Lake but maybe the foggy weather, the less than grand mexican food we had for lunch,  and our long construction filled drive there played into our opinion.

Nonetheless, we saw a moose (first time!) and a baby moose.  What do you call a baby moose? And I definitely think moose plural should be meese, it just makes sense.

These are elk, not meese.

And I would just like to note the proximity of the clouds to the land.  Trailridge Rd. is way up there!  And it is windy.

Look, it’s me and my mama.  Finally, a people pic.

and now a moose and it’s mama

Day 4:

More shopping!  We started out a little later but made our way to Ft. Collins.  From there, we toured through Longmont and Lafayette and made sure to see all of the local thrift stores and antiques each town had to offer.  We were wiped but took full advantage of the amazing Colorado weather and enjoyed another deck dinner complete with buffalo burgers, my new hanging basket, and our chiminea!

Day 5:

Closing day.  We tied up a lot of loose ends including picture hanging.  Yes, my parents came to Colorado and then they helped me hang pictures.  I will share more on that coming up soon.  Also, since I will have a new home away from home in about a month, I took them to see my new school.  I forgot how excited I am about all that!

They got all packed up and headed out of town.  It was bittersweet.  I’m so glad they came to stay but it was sad to see them go because they get me, quirks and all.

Mom and Dad, thanks so much for coming to see us!  I love you guys!

summertime best

Just popping in to say that after a busy day, a full car load, two pit stops, several bugs, and lots of miles, we are here in Kansas City visiting friends and family!

We made a last minute executive decision that now was a good time to make the trip to Missouri before the summer swing of things happens.

Lots of things to do and people to see.  I’ll be around and I’ll be sure to share it with you all.

It’s hot here and I can’t think of anything better to keep us cool than watermelon.  When I was a kid and people asked what my favorite food was I always told them watermelon.  Still my fave.  Don’t you just LOVE watermelon? Do you have another summer food favorite?

Wow, two posts in one day !

Honestly, with the change in schedule I slipped in bed the night before last and I told Dan, “I forgot to blog today.”  I’ve had times when I was too busy to blog everyday but I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten.

So, let’s jump in.

Just a quick peek at my new future “home away from home” – aka Art Room.  I can’t quite believe how nice it is since it is a real art room, built one year ago to be an actual art room.  Are you picking up what I’m laying down?  We’re talking low sinks for the kids, a plethora of cabinets and storage, a kiln with its own room, windows, paper storage drawers, tables and chairs that all match…

Ok, I’m back now.  It’s just that rooms that nice are hard to come by and I feel so LUCKY.

Here’s me giving a grin in the reflection of the brand new kiln!

shiny kiln

I also got to talk to my principal a little and she told me something so incredibly bizarre I still can’t get over it.  I don’t live within the district I will be teaching in and the school is about 12 miles away from where I live.  As it turns out, my principal lives down the street from me.  She told me she didn’t want to say anything in the interview but she knows where I live.  Crazy!  She lives 4 houses down from me.  Of all the places…coincidences like that amaze me.  I guess I better start closing the blinds more often : )

And for my family:  if you’d like to see the full tour with my commentary, click HERE.

Wow, I can’t remember the last time I was this completely and totally wiped out like this.  Mentally and physically exhausted.  So tired complete sentences are a struggle.

-Interview went well  – in the waiting game on that one.

-Friends from good old Missouri in town staying with us.

-Something so so so exciting is happening tonight.  Very exciting! (no, it’s not american idol finale)

-Tune in tomorrow for the complete run-down…you won’t be disappointed.

Love, love to you now it’s time for a nap………………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

High five to me for keeping my vow to get to bed before midnight all week.  I did it with the exception of that one night…
I hit the couch today after school to catch a power nap.  Four hours later I am powered up – whoops!  Now I am back and at ‘em and I should be in bed.  Curse you, early morning hours!

Happy Easter to you!  It’s a great day to remember and to look forward.

Well, this break started out more as a “hit the ground groaning” sort of a day.  I spent all Friday morning feeling all sorts of sick.  It was awful but a little sickness then sleep plus a Jayhawk’s win and I was back in the game.
I spent some fun time in Longmont loving on some flea markets and some photo worthy sites and then I ended up at the giant warehouse Crocs sale.  Don’t judge me.  I love a good deal and $5 for Crocs is a good deal no matter how you slice it.  We finished up this crazy day over dinner with friends and some Wii golf and bowling.

Saturday was a low day but it was full of sleep which was definitely on the “to do’s” so I will count that as a win as well.

Sunday has been go, go, go with another Jayhawks victory in the bag (sweet 16, baby!) and a good time downtown with Dan’s aunt and cousin in town from VA.  We enjoyed a great meal and then rushed home to tidy up and pack it up.  The weather is HOT – as in 80 degrees hot but we are trading it in for what we hope (fingers crossed) is a great spring storm in Steamboat Springs.  They say 9 inches tonight and equal that for tomorrow so time will tell because they may or may not have lied to us before.  My vote, no fog and I’ll be happy!

Ok, Dan’s giving me the “Honnnnnnney” signal from downstairs so I will leave you with these fun finds from the Longmont Western Sugar Beet Company factory/plant.  Sugar beets, who knew?

Lots of love to you for a fine Monday!  Be back Tuesday with many new photos to endure, errr….devour!
